According to schedule, the England National Football team will be competing against IR Iran in their opening match in ‘Group B’ on 21 November 2022. The team has, however, been placed in Group B alongside IR Iran, USA and Wales for the FIFA World Cup.

Team of England

The England National Football team is also known as “The Three Lions”. Since 1872 the team has been successfully representing England in international football matches and tournaments. However, it is said to be controlled by the Football Association (FA), which is considered as the governing body for football in England and is affiliated with UEFA.

Moreover, the team is said to compete in the three major international tournaments that are contested by the European nations, “FIFA World Cup”, “UEFA European Championship”, “UEFA Nations League”. England is said to be the joint oldest national team in football, and one of the eight nations to have achieved the World Cup. Gareth Southgate was appointed as their head coach in 2016, and since then he has managed the England team to reach the semi-final of 2018 FIFA World Cup, and the 2020 EUROS Final.

According to reports, the team has qualified for the World Cup for nearly 16 times. And, also managed to win the 1966 World Cup Final. They also bagged the fourth position in both 1990 and 2018 World Cups. The team played in the world’s first international football match in 1872, against Scotland. The home ground of England is Wembley Stadium, London.

However, being a constituent country of the United Kingdom, England is not a member of the International Olympic Committee and thereby does not compete at the Olympic Games. Furthermore, England is currently considered as the only team to have won the World Cup at senior level, also they are the only non-sovereign entity to have achieved the World Cup. The team is expected to bounce back in this tournament, after their defeat in the 2020 EUROS Final. The team will be looking forward to making a comeback in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
