FIFA World Cup Records and Statistics: Games with the Fewest Spectators

2 Min Read

For every sports fan on the planet, attending the FIFA World Cup is an opportunity that will only come around once in their lifetime. The World Cup is an event that must be on any sports fan’s “Bucket List” if such a thing even exists. The soccer event has the potential to bring together millions of supporters every four years. For many fans, the opportunity to travel and watch their national team compete in the tournament fulfils a dream that has lasted a lifetime.

The World Cup match between Brazil and Uruguay in 1950 was decisive and retained the record for the most people attending a single game at a World Cup tournament. The game took place at Maracana Stadium. However, the match between Romania and Peru in Uruguay in 1930 was the World Cup match that had the fewest spectators in the competition’s whole history.

World Cup Games with the Fewest Spectators (Romania vs Peru, 1930)

As was noted earlier, the FIFA World Cup is, without a doubt, the most crucial sporting competition that ever takes place anywhere in the world. Indeed, each time a presidential election rolls around, billions of people gather in front of their televisions to watch the results. Even if the audiences that are present within the stadiums are not that large because the stadiums themselves are not that large, there have been certain crowds that have been spectacular.

Since then, we have not witnessed a crowd on par with that one. In case you were wondering what the crowd was like at the other end of the spectrum, it was back in 1930 when only 300 people, the equivalent of a small village, showed out to watch Romania play Peru.
