FIFPro announced its World XI for the 2024 season which consisted of star players like Vinicius Junior, Erling Haaland, Rodri, and Kylian Mbappe.
The team features six players from reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid and four from Premier League top club Manchester City, alongside Liverpool’s standout centre half Virgil van Dijk, among others.
FIFPro World XI lineup this year saw Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson claim the spot between the posts. He has the backing of a defensive trio comprising Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger, his teammate Dani Carvajal, and Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.
The midfield includes Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, despite limited appearances this year due to injury. He is accompanied by 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, and his former teammate, the German maestro Toni Kroos.
The forward line comprises Real Madrid’s lethal duo, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior who were complemented by Manchester City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland.
However, Euro 2024 breakout star Lamine Yamal did not make it to the list. Real Madrid’s versatile Federico Valverde, and Manchester City’s rising star Cole Palmer are other surprise exclusions from FIFPro World XI.
Also, all-time football greats Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo were not included in the list.
The all-time football greats did not make the men’s world team of the year organised by global players’ union FIFPRO yesterday. Messi, who is with Inter Miami in MLS and Ronaldo who features for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League were the only players not with European clubs voted on to a 26-man shortlist by FIFPRO last week.
The World XI was voted for by professional players from 70 countries.
