The FIH Pro League 2024-25 is currently underway for both men and women. The league follows a home and away format, and it’s divided into date blocks with mini-tournaments where each team faces one another twice. The winner of the league earns a direct qualification to the Hockey World Cup 2026.
The Bhubaneshwar leg just concluded where the men’s team faced England and lost 2-2 in a closely contested match. The team bounced back to defeat England in their subsequent match. Despite losing three out of eight total matches played in the Bhubaneshwar leg, the team continued to remain in the third position.
The team was left by Harmanpreet Singh as captain and Hardik Singh as vice-captain. The team will now travel to Amsterdam and Antwerp for their next and final leg of the FIH Pro League 2024-25. The mini-tournament begins on 7 June and will end on 29 June 2025.
Not just in the tournament, the Indian team is shining bright in the FIH World Rankings as well by being in the top 5 teams. India is currently ranked fifth worldwide, which is a result of their consistent performance, including their notable performance in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Similarly, the women’s team played a total of eight matches, out of which they only won three matches, one against England, Germany, and the Netherlands. The win against the Netherlands was specifically significant since the team is ranked World Number 1, which boosted the team’s morale after losing a significant number of matches.
Despite their average performance in the Bhubaneshwar leg, they remain in the top 6 of The FIH Pro League. The team will travel to London for the next leg, which is set to commence on 7 June and conclude on 29 June 2025.
Just like the Indian men’s team, women aren’t also behind. They managed to retain their position in the top 10 in the FIH World Rankings after the recent update on Tuesday. The team currently stands in the ninth position and will be aiming to improve their position in both in the upcoming leg.
