It was the 16th round of the world cup held in Italy, and it was a close call for both teams. Although Germany beat Belgium by the score of 5 to 2, Belgium gave a tough fight against Germany. The star hitter of that match was its forward Edmund Conen, who scored his first world cup hattrick on that ground.

The official line of the German team for the world cup match was Paul Janes, Hans Schwartz, Sigmund Haringer;  Willibald Kress, Karl Hohmann, Fritz Szepan,  Paul Zielinski, Otto Siffling, Stanislaus Kobierski, Ernst Lehner, Edmund Conen.

After twenty-five minutes in the game, Kobierski was the first to score for Germany, but it was soon cancelled out; just four minutes later, Belgium equalized Bernard Voorhoof, giving the Belgians some hope. During halftime, Voorhoof doubled his score and Rode Duivels’ lead. At halftime in Florence, Belgium led 2-1, but six minutes after the restart, the Germans were back level through striker Otto Sniffling; in the last minutes, Edmund Conen scored his first hattrick of the world cup in his debut. That brought the Germans into the Quarter Finals.

Just nineteen-year-old German youngster Conen impacted the second FIFA World Cup with his three goals in his first tournament match against Belgium on May 27. The game was at 2–2 before the powerful forward scored three times in a row in the few minutes of the game Germans won by the score of 5–2 in Florence, Italy. As a 21-year-old, Conan’s career was halted two years later because of his illness. It kept him from his game for almost three and a half years.

Conen was courageous and fought to return to the national team on June 25, 1939. Conen made an astounding comeback on June 25, in Copenhagen against Denmark, with 2-0 as a score in the game; the victory is confirmed. He played his last international match in 1942. The German national team won this final match by 5–3 in Budapest against Hungary.

Edmund Conen is the youngest forward in the history of football. He was the first to score 3 back-to-back goals in a world cup match; he played from 1934 to 1942 in 28 international matches for Germany and scored 27 goals.
