Florian Wellbrock reclaimed the men’s 10km open water swimming world title at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Wednesday, 16 July.
With this victory, Wellbrock became the first swimmer to claim three 10km open water world titles, adding Singapore gold to his titles in 2019 and 2023.
This was Florian Wellbrock’s sixth World championships title in open water swimming.
The German led for almost the entire race and overcame a late attack from former world champion Gregorio Paltrinieri. On the final lap, Wellbrock clocked in 1:59:55:50 to defend the title.
He had won the event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and two previous world championships.
Italy’s Paltrinieri settled for silver 3.70s behind, followed by Australia’s Kyle Lee for third in 2:00:10.3.

Open water competition at the World Aquatics Championships took place Wednesday after two postponements on account of poor water quality at Sentosa, the island area on the coast.
It was initially scheduled to open on Tuesday.
Event organizers said water-quality samples taken on Tuesday afternoon showed “a significant improvement with levels of E. coli falling between the ranges of good and excellent” in regulations set by the governing body World Aquatics.
At Paris Olympics 2024, the open water events in the Seine River were a constant cause of concern. The Tokyo Olympics also had similar water quality issues problems in 2021 because of warm water in a shallow bay.
