One of the renowned American Tennis player, Frances Tiafoe who managed to gain wide recognition after defeating Rafael Nadal has recently won against Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-1, 7-6 (9/7) in the second round, which took place in Tokyo. The player managed to beat Nadal on the verge of a first Grand Slam Semi-final at the US Open, some weeks ago.
However, it was the second battle for Frances Tiafoe in order to reach the Japan Open quarterfinals. On being asked after the victory, Tiafoe mentioned that he didn’t pay much attention to any sort of expectations. But he wanted to achieve it for himself.
He said, “I’ve been on tour for seven or eight years now, none of that really moves me. I wanna win for me, I’m not trying to achieve anybody else’s goals.” This 24-year-old American player made it really well through the beginning set, prior to Miralles fighting back to take the next to a tie-break that witnessed several of best rallies of the 1hr 32mins tournament.
Moreover, the player managed to get over his last 13 tie-breaks. He seems to have enjoyed the tournament and stated the second set to be hardy. He said, “Good match today, tough second set.”
“Sometimes it tips well your way. I’m playing very aggressive, I’m serving well in the tie-breaks, always a couple of aces.”
According to reports, he will be opposing Miomir Kecmanovic in the last eight, post knocking out Britain’s Dan Evans 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7/4). And later defeating Rafael Nadal, he managed to play an important part at the Laver Cup in London, where his rest of the World Team knocked out Europe for the first time since the record of competition.
He further mentioned having an amazing experience since the US Open and trying to make out the best for himself. As stated by him, he is never bothered about what others has to say or think. He is simply trying to achieve his own goals.
