Lewis Hamilton’s much-anticipated debut with Ferrari hasn’t exactly been a perfect one. After five races, he has struggled to even finish in the top five. His best performance was in the Bahrain GP, where he finished in fifth position, while he finished seventh or lower in other races, including a disqualification at the Chinese GP. Hamilton himself described his campaign as “painful.”
Ralf Schumacher On Lewis Hamilton
This disappointing performance has fueled speculations about Hamilton’s future with Ferrari as well as his career. While Hamilton remains under contract until the end of 2026, the narrative of his retirement seems more likely as of now. Former F1 racer Ralf Schumacher suggested he could announce retirement at the end of the F1 2025 season.
He said, ” I know from my own experience: if it goes on like this, it’s no fun anymore. Then at some point, he wakes up in the morning and thinks to himself: ‘Why am I doing this to myself? I’m no longer having fun, I can’t do it anymore. I’m getting in the way of my team.’ If it goes on like this, there’s a risk that at some point he’ll say: ‘Look, I don’t want this anymore.”
Fred Vasseur Backs Lewis Hamilton
However, despite this pressure and rumours, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has offered unwavering support for his star driver. He said, “I will be 2,000 per cent behind him. I will give him support, and we will start from tomorrow morning to try to find solutions and reasons and to work on it early in the morning. But honestly, I am not too worried. If you have a look at what he did in China or what he did in the race in Bahrain last week, or even on the first part of the session in this weekend, the potential is there for sure.
“We just have to adjust the balance because we are, collectively, Lewis and us, we are struggling with the balance of his car and [how] he is working the tyres. It’s a kind of negative spot, but I think the potential of the car is there, and we will try to solve that. I will never be the guy who says we are World Champions or we are nowhere. We are a team. We are struggling on the weekend, we have good results on the weekend. It’s just that we have to improve step by step and stay calm,” he added.
Fred Vasseur’s support came at a crucial time ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. As Lewis Hamilton approaches his next race, the Miami Grand Prix, he will be fraught with challenges. Fred Vassuer remains absolutely optimistic about his further progress, and he has made the message loud and clear. It will be interesting to see if Lewis Hamilton can prove this undying support right or fails to do so even in the upcoming races.
