Freestyle Chess Tour Paris Leg, Day 1 Highlights

The Freestyle Chess Tour Paris Leg started with thrilling matchups on Monday. A total of six rounds were held, with six matches in each round. The competition is being held at the Pavillon Chesnaie du Roy in Paris, France. The tournament features the best talents in the world of chess, and it’s no shock that World Number 1 Magnus Carlsen has taken the lead on the first day of the Freestyle Chess Tour Paris Leg.

Magnus Carlsen won five out of six rounds, only losing to the Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigiasi, which marked an interesting start for India in the tournament. 

GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov also emerged as an early leader by scoring five out of six points. He was a late addition to the tournament following Hans Niemann’s last-minute withdrawal. 

The Indian players had a challenging day with mixed results. While Arjun Erigiasi emerged victorious against Fabiano Caruana, Magnus Carlsen, and Vincent Keymer, World Champion Gukesh D. only won a single match against his fellow Indian Arjun.  Meanwhile, Praggnanandhaa secured two wins, while Vidit Gujrathi managed only one victory. 

Vincent Keymer, the champion of the first leg of the Freestyle Chess Tour, won two matches while losing all four matches. Other notable performances include GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who delivered a solid performance, scoring 4.5 points. GM Ian Nepomniachtchi also impressed with 4/6 points, positioning himself at fourth position.
