The former Indian cricketer batsman Gautam Gambhir and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh both compared India’s Olympic medal in the Tokyo Olympics to the 2011 World Cup win by India. Harbhajan Singh said Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics 202 on Saturday was bigger than India’s 2011 World Cup victory.

Neeraj Chopra made history by winning the gold medal and also becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in athletics in the history of the Olympics. In the finals of the javelin throw competition, Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin at a distance of 87.58m. Which helped him to win the gold medal for India. Neeraj Chopra bought an end to the country’s 100-year-long wait for a medal in track and field events in athletics at the Olympics.

The former Indian cricketer and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh compared Neeraj Chopra’s winning historic gold medal to compared India’s World Cup victory. And said Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal win was bigger than the World Cup win. “The gold medal win is bigger than the Cricket World Cup win in 2011. This should be celebrated 50 times more than the 2011 World Cup”, said Harbhajan Singh. He was part of the Indian team which won the World Cup in 2011 beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir earlier said India’s bronze medal win in men’s hockey in the Tokyo Olympics is bigger than the 2011 World Cup win. He reacted to Harbhajan’s remark on Twitter. “True that @harbhajan Singh …But You shouldn’t have said this! You shall never say this “, he wrote.

Indian fans severely criticized the former Indian cricket for comparing the 2011 World Cup win with India’s bronze medal victory in hockey at the Tokyo Olympics. The victory of this India’s men’s hockey in the Olympics ended their drought of not winning an Olympic medal over four decades. It was under MS Dhoni where India won the 50 overs World Cup in 2011. which registered their second World Cup win in 28 years.

Both Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir were par to f World Cup-winning side which scripted history by becoming the first team to win World Cup on home soil. Ms. Dhoni became the legendary captain to have won all the major ICC trophies. Following the 2011 World Cup win, he led India to win a Champions Trophy in the year 2013 with a younger side.

But Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir were not in the 2013 Champions Trophy-winning side, by defeating England by a narrow margin in their home conditions. It is the last ICC trophy India won today.
