Gavi, the 17-year-old Barcelona midfielder has been called up for the upcoming Nations League matches for Spain.

The player’s inclusion has been a surprise as Gavi has only played six matches so far in his senior career. However, the young player has been impressed with his performances in the limited time he was given. Gavi has one assist to his name in La Liga and came very near to open his goal account against Levante.

With his selection to the national team, Gavi becomes the youngest ever player to be called up for the national team. Meanwhile, Gavi could also become the youngest player to represent the national side of Spain if he plays. As of right now, the player is 17 years and 56 days. Currently, the youngest player ever to represent Spain is Ángel Zubieta at 17 years and 284 days. Gavi would also be ahead of Ansu Fati who made his debut at 17 years and 308 days.

Luis Enrique, Spain national team boss says he has no doubt about Gavi’s talent. He also said he has been following Gavi for a long time and knows the potential of the player.

He said,

“When you see him at this level, you are surprised by his performance. I have known him for a long time. I have no doubt about the performance he will give in the future. He is a pure interior, Barça style, very interesting.”

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona congratulated their young talent on being selected for the national team.
