GCL 2025 Day 6 delivered pure drama that kept fans glued to their screens. GCL 2025 Day 6 Recap
GCL 2025 Day 6 featured four intense matches in the double round-robin format, with leaders playing twice. Triveni Continental Kings faced a rollercoaster: they lost 12-8 to Alpine SG Pipers, where Fabiano Caruana ended Alireza Firouzja’s five-game win streak in a game-of-the-day thriller. Anish Giri and R Praggnanandhaa also shone for Pipers, avenging earlier defeats against Wei Yi and Vidit Gujrathi.
But the Kings bounced back in style, edging PBG Alaskan Knights 10-9 in the closest match yet. Firouzja stumbled again, losing an endgame to World Champion D Gukesh, but wins from Wei Yi, Vidit Gujrathi, and Alexandra Kosteniuk sealed the vital victory. Gukesh and Kateryna Lagno fought hard for Knights, yet Triveni stayed unbeaten in match points at 15 from 70 game points.
UpGrad Mumbai Masters wasted no time, thrashing Ganges Grandmasters 11-6. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave held Viswanathan Anand to a draw despite Anand’s missed win, while Wesley So, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Koneru Humpy delivered key triumphs. Stavroula Tsolakidou notched her first event win, pushing Mumba to 12 match points and 67 game points, now just behind the leaders with a match in hand.
PBG Alaskan Knights beat Fyers American Gambits 9-7 earlier, with Gukesh toppling Hikaru Nakamura in time trouble. Alpine SG Pipers and Ganges share third on 9 points, while Fyers and Knights lag at 6.
