The Esports World Cup 2025 League of Legends tournament ended with Gen.G Esports lifting the trophy after an intense final against AG.AL. Gen.G not only won the title but also took home $600,000 and earned 1,000 Club Championship points. It was a week filled with action, upsets, and incredible gameplay.

Final Battle Goes to 5 Games

Gen.G came into the tournament as favorites. They had won MSI earlier in the year and hadn’t lost a single series. But the story changed when AG.AL shocked the world by defeating last year’s champions T1 in the semifinals. Gen.G also had a tough semifinal against G2.

In the final, Gen.G took an early 2-0 lead. But AG.AL made a strong comeback, winning Game 3 easily and taking Game 4 after a close fight. With the series tied 2-2, it all came down to the final game. Gen.G didn’t panic. With Chovy playing Twisted Fate, they controlled Game 5 and sealed the championship.

After the match, Chovy jokingly said, “We just wanted to make a show,” about letting the series go to five games.

Kim “Kiin” Ki-in Named Sony MVP

Top laner Kim “Kiin” Ki-in had a fantastic tournament. His strong performances, especially in big moments, made him stand out. He was awarded the Sony MVP title and received a $10,000 prize.

Big Moments from the Tournament

The group stage was full of surprises. Brazilian team FURIA knocked out North America’s Cloud9 in a best-of-one match. But their run ended when they lost to FlyQuest in the next round.

Four teams advanced to the quarterfinals: FlyQuest, G2, Hanwha Life Esports, and Movistar KOI. They joined top-seeded teams like Bilibili Gaming, AG.AL, Gen.G, and T1.

New Draft System Changes the Game

The playoffs introduced the Fearless draft system, where teams couldn’t use the same champions again. This led to some exciting and unexpected picks. In G2’s big win over BLG, mid laner Caps picked LeBlanc in Game 3. It was a surprise choice, but he played amazingly and helped G2 reach the semifinals.

G2 vs Gen.G: The Semifinal Clash

G2 went into their semifinal with high hopes after beating BLG. But Gen.G was too strong. They won the match 2-1, with Game 3 showing Kim “Kiin” Ki-in’s powerful Ambessa gameplay.

AG.AL Ends T1’s Dream

On the other side of the bracket, AG.AL faced T1. AG.AL played confidently and defeated the defending champs. T1 still played one last match against G2 and won the third-place match to end on a high note.

Gen.G Looks Ahead to the Club Championship

Winning the tournament gave Gen.G 1,000 points toward the Club Championship. This win also qualified them for the race to become the overall champion of the Esports World Cup season.
