India’s campaign at the German Open 2026 came to a close after Kidambi Srikanth exited in the men’s singles second round in Mülheim an der Ruhr on Thursday.
The former world No. 1 and 2021 World Championships silver medallist was defeated 21-14, 21-9 by Lin Chun-Yi, currently ranked No. 11 in the world. The 32-minute straight-game loss marked Srikanth’s second defeat in as many meetings against the Chinese Taipei shuttler.
Lin, who won the India Open earlier this year, had also beaten Srikanth in the semi-finals of the Swiss Open in 2024.
Srikanth started strongly, racing to a 9-5 lead in the opening game. However, Lin clawed back to move ahead 12-10 before comfortably sealing the first game. After the interval, Lin surged to a 7-1 advantage in the second game and maintained firm control, leaving Srikanth with little opportunity to mount a comeback.
The Indian had entered the tournament on the back of quarter-final finishes at the India Open and the Indonesia Masters, and had also represented the country at the Badminton Asia Team Championships earlier this month.
