Formula 1 fans in the United States will soon have a new way to experience race weekends. Select Grands Prix from the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship will be shown live in IMAX theatres across the country, bringing the action from the track to some of the largest cinema screens available.
IMAX has partnered with Apple TV to broadcast five major races in at least 50 IMAX locations nationwide. The collaboration aims to offer fans a more immersive way to watch the sport, with enhanced sound and large-format visuals designed to capture every detail of the on-track drama.
Five Major Races on the Big Screen
The races set to be screened in IMAX theatres are among the most iconic events on the Formula 1 calendar:
- Miami Grand Prix – May 3
- Monaco Grand Prix – June 7
- British Grand Prix at Silverstone – July 5
- Italian Grand Prix at Monza – September 6
- United States Grand Prix in Austin – October 25
These events are known for their unique circuits, passionate crowds and dramatic moments, making them strong choices for a cinematic presentation.
Building on a Successful Film Partnership
After the release of “F1: The Movie” (a sports drama that features leading man Brad Pitt, with Joseph Kosinski directing), it became apparent that F1’s high-speed racing and stunning visual quality provide an excellent IMAX experience.
Both movie production companies have stated that the film proved that the combination of speed, precision, and awe-inspiring action created by Formula 1 translates perfectly to the larger scale and wider angle of IMAX.
A Growing Audience in the United States
Formula 1 has seen significant growth in popularity in the United States in recent years. The addition of races in cities such as Miami and Austin has strengthened its presence, while broader media coverage has expanded its audience.
By bringing live race broadcasts into cinemas, Formula 1 and its partners are offering fans a shared viewing experience that combines the atmosphere of a sporting event with the scale and technology of a modern theatre.
