On Sunday, Rinku Singh pulled off a breathtaking heist to give Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) an unbelievable victory over the reigning champion Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. After Rashid Khan’s record hat-trick put Kolkata in a precarious position, Rinku’s barrage of sixes in the final over of the chase helped them recover and secure a three-wicket victory. While Rinku received many congratulations on Twitter, devoted followers noticed a startling resemblance between the KKR player and Virat Kohli’s performance against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year.
An on-song KKR were left in total disarray after Alzarri Joseph broke the crucial stand between Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana by dismissing both batters. Later, stand-in skipper Rashid struck an over by dismissing Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur to write the first hat-trick in IPL 2023.
However, Rinku led KKR to a thrilling victory when the equation read 48 off 18 because of his unbeaten knock of 45 off 29 that included six maximums and a boundary. Umesh Yadav took the game’s most important single on the first ball of the final over after Rinku hit Joshua Little in the penultimate over for a six and a four, putting the latter on strike. The KKR star then made Yash Dayal’s deliveries laughable by hitting him for five consecutive sixes.
Moments after the decisive victory and the avalanche at the Narendra Modi Stadium, devoted supporters remembered how former India captain Virat Kohli had rallied the Men in Blue from a similar position in his attempt to lead the team to a victory against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup five months earlier in Melbourne.
In the penultimate over against Haris Rauf, with India needing 48 off 18 just like KKR on Sunday, Kohli smashed three boundaries and three sixes, two of which are regarded as iconic strikes, as India won by four wickets. In that game, Kohli had an unbeaten 82 points off 53 plays.

“Had the conviction that I could succeed. I experienced a similar circumstance in Lucknow last year. had the same belief at the time. I didn’t give it much thought. One after the other, those shots were fired. After accepting the Player of the Match trophy, Rinku had said, “That last one was back of the hand, and I struck it off the back foot.
