Guidelines Permit Athletes to Showcase Olympic Moments Online

Discover the IOC’s groundbreaking move! Athletes get the green light to share their Olympic adventures on social media during Paris 2024 and Winter YOG 2024.

Accredited athletes participating in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024 have been given the nod to share their journey through audio and video recordings on their digital platforms. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has laid out official Social and Digital Media Guidelines, allowing athletes to offer a glimpse into their Olympic experience while maintaining the rights of Media Rights-holders (MRHs), as reported by Xinhua.

According to the guidelines, athletes have the liberty to post recordings encompassing moments from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Olympic Village, competition and training venues, as well as practice areas. The recording window for athletes extends to one hour before their competition’s commencement and after they exit the mixed zone or doping control station, clarified the IOC.

However, individuals accredited to the Olympic Games Paris 2024, including coaches, technical staff, entourage members, team officials, volunteers, personnel of National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Federations (IFs), or the Organising Committee, and other team personnel participating in the Games are required to adhere to the IOC Social and Digital Media Guidelines for Accredited Individuals, distinct from athletes.
