Gukesh D’s Dream Week: Wins The Rapid Title At SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025

Gukesh D just had a week to remember at the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025. Not only did he beat his biggest rival, Magnus Carlsen, again, but he also won the rapid title with 14 points. This commanding victory has once again proved that he is the reigning world champion for a reason. He finished 3 points ahead of Jan-Krzysztof Duda, while the world number 1, Magnus Carlsen, finished in third position. 

Gukesh D’s journey to the title was not a bed of roses. He had a shaky start as he lost round 1 to Duda; however, as we know Gukesh, he did not give up. He made a remarkable comeback and did not lose a single game after that for eight more rounds. Every game he played after that ended in either a victory or a draw.

He went on a winning spree after the initial loss in round 1 and won five consecutive games against the top chess players. The highlight of the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025 was his win against Magnus Carlsen, and this time, nobody called it luck as it was pure talent and tactics. He impressed with his performance so much that chess icon, Garry Kasparov, compared him with “computers.”

By the end of the rapid section of the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025, Gukesh had scored 14 points out of 18. He finished with six wins, two draws, and just one loss. In his last game, he beat Wesley So from the USA by taking advantage of a mistake and winning in just 36 moves. He won the tournament with a commanding gap from Duda, who finished second.

Now, the blitz section of the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2025 will begin, and all eyes are on Gukesh to see if he can keep up his great form. For Indian chess fans, this was truly a dream week, as Gukesh continues to make the country proud.
