Following Lakshya Sen, H.S Prannoy is also out of the BWF World Championships now. Prannoy beat Lakshya Sen in the pre-quarterfinal 17-21, 21-16, 21-17 to reach the quarter-final. However, Prannoy’s run at the championship came to an end on Friday after facing a defeat at the hands of Zhao Jun Peng.
H.S Prannoy faced the Chinese shuttler in the quarter-final after conquering three rounds winning against Luka Wraber, Kento Momota, and Lakshya Sen respectively. However, Zhao Jun Peng disrupted Prannoy’s winning streak in the fourth round. Zhao Jun Peng beat Prannoy 19-21, 21-6, and 21-18 in a match that went for over an hour. Prannoy looked especially disappointed after the defeat with his knees on the ground and head hanging low.
This one will hurt for a while 😔
Gave my all today but was not enough to get into the World Championships podium once again.
Proud of the way I played this week.

Earlier on Friday, Men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made their place in the semi-finals after outsmarting Japanese duo Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi 22-24, 21-15, 21-14. The duo has ensured a medal in championships. However, other contenders like Srikant Kidambi, Saina Nehwal, and Lakshya Sen are already out of the championship. Kidambi was stunned by Zhao Jun Peng in the second round. And Saina Nehwal lost to Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand in the pre-quarterfinal 17-21, 21-16, 13-21.
Moreover, another duo surprised everyone with their dominating performance in the tournament MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila. However, the duo was derailed from their medal run by Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. Arjun and Kapila lost to Ahsan and Setiawan of Indonesia 8-21, 14-21 in the quarter-finals. Now, with Prannoy out too, hopes reside with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty to emerge victorious in their run at the championship.
