Harmanpreet Kaur Aims To Rewrite History At Women’s ODI World Cup 2025: Leading your country in a home World Cup is a rare and special honor. For India, that moment comes when they face Sri Lanka on September 30 in Guwahati in the ICC Women’s World Cup opener, with Harmanpreet Kaur at the helm.

Harmanpreet Kaur Aims To Rewrite History

The 36-year-old captain is understandably thrilled and eager to become India’s first World Cup-winning skipper. She hopes to erase the memories of India finishing as runners-up twice before, in 2005 to Australia and in 2017 to England.

“I’m sure this time we will cross this line,” Harmanpreet said on Friday at the Captain’s Day event. “We have been playing good cricket, and we are only talking about enjoying this moment. We have learnt from our [past] mistakes, and hopefully this time we will be on the other side.”

Smriti Mandhana Shines as a Big Boost

A major boost for India is the form of Smriti Mandhana, the world’s top-ranked ODI batter. She recently scored 125, 117, and 58 against the visiting Australians, giving the team plenty of confidence.

She’s been great, to be honest,” Harmanpreet said. “The way she’s batting nowadays… It’s really exciting to watch from the outside. Especially when I’m batting with her, things are quite easy. You don’t need to stress too much because she’s always there to help, and having her is a big strength for us.”

A Competitive World Cup Awaits

Harmanpreet knows it won’t be an easy ride. “Every team has an equal chance to win, and that shows that we have really raised the standard of women’s cricket,” she said.
