The world of professional wrestling is full of larger-than-life characters and high-stakes drama, but even the most talented performers can find themselves in trouble with their employers from time to time. In the world of WWE, the largest and most prestigious wrestling promotion in the world, wrestlers are not immune from being disciplined for their actions outside of the ring. Here are five times when WWE wrestlers were fined for their behaviour.
Randy Orton’s Marine Corps controversy
In 2013, WWE superstar Randy Orton found himself in hot water with the United States Marine Corps when he posted a photo on Instagram of himself posing with a group of Marines. While the photo itself was not controversial, Orton’s caption used a derogatory term to refer to Iraqis, which quickly drew the ire of both the military and WWE management. Orton was fined an undisclosed amount and forced to issue a public apology for his actions.
The Miz’s on-air outburst
The Miz is known for being a brash and outspoken wrestler, but his antics got him into trouble during an episode of Raw in 2018. During a segment where he was supposed to be interviewing another wrestler, The Miz went off-script and launched into a profanity-laced tirade that had to be bleeped out by WWE censors. The incident resulted in The Miz being fined an undisclosed amount by the company.
Titus O’Neil’s suspension

Titus O’Neil is one of the most respected and beloved wrestlers in the WWE locker room, but his actions during the 2016 Daniel Bryan retirement ceremony earned him a suspension and a hefty fine from the company. During the ceremony, O’Neil grabbed Vince McMahon, the CEO of WWE, in what was seen as a playful gesture of affection. However, McMahon did not take kindly to the physical contact and ordered O’Neil to leave the event. O’Neil was suspended for 90 days later reduced t 60 days and fined $10,000 for his behaviour.
The Undertaker’s wardrobe malfunction
Even the most experienced wrestlers can have an off night, as The Undertaker found out during a match in 2002. As he was being lifted onto a turnbuckle by another wrestler, The Undertaker’s pants tore open, revealing his backside to the entire arena. While the incident was largely played for laughs by fans, it resulted in The Undertaker being fined $5,000 by WWE management.
Brock Lesnar’s failed drug test
In 2016, WWE superstar Brock Lesnar made a highly publicized return to the company after a hiatus from wrestling. However, his comeback was short-lived when it was revealed that he had failed a drug test prior to a major event. The test showed that Lesnar had a banned substance in his system, which resulted in him being fined $250,000 and suspended from the WWE for one year.
