John Cena vs Austin Theory
After being initially outmatched in a match that included back-and-forth combat, The Visionary delivered the decisive blow to win. On Day 1 of WWE WrestleMania 39, Austin Theory shocked John Cena by retaining the United States championship. Theory hit Cena with a low blow as the referee was out. Theory hit Cena with the A Town Down and pinned The Champ.
Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte Flair
In one of the show stealers from the day 1, Women’s Royal Rumble winner, Rhea Ripley defeated the SmackDown’s Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. The former SmackDown women’s champion was unable to contend with Ripley’s formidable combination of strength and intelligence. Despite having her moments, Flair was frequently outmatched by her fierce and assured rival. After countering Ripley into a spiked DDT, it seemed like Flair would escape with her belt intact, but Ripley resisted. At the end it was Ripley who came on top as she defeated Charlotte Flair.
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs The Usos
As Zayn and Jey Uso sparred, the main event immediately entered the emotional conflict. The crowd cheered when Zayn launched his first offensive effort, but the fierce champs quickly took control. After Owens made the hot tag, he flattened Jey Uso with a frog splash and knocked out Jimmy Uso at ringside, igniting the fans. The heated crowd only grew louder as the game progressed. The audience was in a frenzy as a result of an apron brainbuster from Zayn to Jey Uso, a swanton bomb from Owens to Jimmy Uso, and a Uso-style splash from Zayn to Jimmy Uso.
Owens was slammed through the announcers’ table by the twin brothers, who at least temporarily removed him from the situation. Another hot tag to Owens, who dropped pop-up powerbombs on the two brothers. The match appeared to be over after Jimmy Uso received a Helluva Kick and Jey Uso received a stunning, but Jey Uso somehow kicked out. Chants of “This is Great” could be heard around the arena as fans expressed their gratitude. After The Usos nailed Owens with their finisher, a carousel of super kicks caused yet another near-fall. The final pendulum swing of the contest was Owens’ Fisherman’s Buster from the top rope. For the pinfall, Zayn hit Jey Uso with three straight Helluva Kicks.
