The history of the ICC Champions Trophy has seen many incredible run chases where teams have thrilled cricket fans by achieving big targets. Recently, in the Champions Trophy 2025 , Australia set a new record by chasing a target of 356 runs against England in Lahore.
Although, teams have won many thrilling matches by chasing big targets, but till now only three teams have been able to successfully chase more than 300 runs. The names of England and Sri Lanka are also included in this list.

10. India – 265 vs Bangladesh (Birmingham, 2017)
India and Bangladesh faced each other in the second semi-final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Bangladesh batted first and scored 264/7 with Tamim Iqbal (70) and Mushfiqur Rahim (61) scoring brilliant knocks.
In reply, India chased the target with ease and scored 265 runs in 40.1 overs for the loss of just 1 wicket. Rohit Sharma (123*), Virat Kohli (96*) and Shikhar Dhawan (46) played a key role in India’s victory.
9. New Zealand – 265 vs India (Nairobi, 2000)
India and New Zealand faced each other in the final of the 2000 Champions Trophy (formerly known as the ICC KnockOut Trophy). Batting first, India scored 264/6 with Sourav Ganguly scoring a brilliant 117.
In response, the New Zealand team was under pressure, but Chris Cairns (102*) scored a brilliant century to guide his team to victory. New Zealand scored 265/6 in the 49th over to lift the trophy.
8. Bangladesh – 266 vs New Zealand (Cardiff, 2017)
Batting first, New Zealand scored 265/8 in the group match of Champions Trophy 2017. Kane Williamson (57) and Ross Taylor (63) played crucial knocks.
In reply, Bangladesh was in trouble after losing 4 wickets for 33 runs, but Shakib Al Hasan (114) and Mahmudullah (102*) made a historic partnership of 224 runs and led the team to victory. Bangladesh won the match by scoring 268/5 in 47.2 overs.
7. India – 270 vs England (Colombo, 2002)
In the group match of ICC Champions Trophy 2002, England batted first and scored 269/7. Marcus Trescothick (86) and Michael Vaughan (62) played good innings. In reply, India scored 271/2 and registered a spectacular victory by 9 wickets. The aggressive innings of Sourav Ganguly (117*) and Virender Sehwag (126*) contributed a lot to this victory.
6. England – 273 vs West Indies (Motera, 2006)
Batting first, West Indies scored 272/4 in a league match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006. Chris Gayle (101) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (56) played brilliant innings.
England chased down the target and scored 276/7 to win the match by 3 wickets. Marcus Trescothick (81) and Kevin Pietersen (72) played crucial knocks while Paul Collingwood (34*) eventually finished the match.
5. South Africa – 282 vs England (Dhaka, 1998)
England batted first and scored 281/7 in the semi-final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 1998. Alec Stewart (82) and Graeme Hick (65) played brilliant innings.
Chasing the target, South Africa scored 282 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Hansie Cronje (94*) and Jacques Kallis (113) played an important role in this victory. South Africa achieved this target in the 47th over and made it to the final.
4. Sri Lanka – 294 vs England (London, 2013)
In 2013, Sri Lanka successfully chased 294 runs against England. In this match, Kumar Sangakkara scored an unbeaten 134 runs and led the team to a glorious victory. Batting first, England scored 293/7, in which Jonathan Trott scored 76 runs.
While chasing the target, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene also made important contributions, but Sangakkara’s excellent innings gave Sri Lanka victory in just 47 overs.
3. England – 306 vs Bangladesh (London, 2017)
In 2017, England scored 308/2 while chasing 306 runs against Bangladesh. Joe Root’s brilliant unbeaten innings of 133 runs played a key role in this victory. England achieved this target with 16 balls to spare.
Bangladesh batted first and scored 305/6, with Tamim Iqbal scoring 128 and Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 79. Liam Plunkett took 4 wickets for 59 runs for England. In reply, England achieved the target easily with the help of Alex Hales (95) and captain Eoin Morgan (75*). It was one of the biggest successful run chases in ICC Champions Trophy history.
2. Sri Lanka – 322 vs India (London, 2017)
In the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, India scored 321/6 against Sri Lanka. Shikhar Dhawan scored 125 off 128 balls while Rohit Sharma (78) and MS Dhoni (63) also played crucial knocks. Lasith Malinga took 2 wickets for Sri Lanka. Despite India’s strong batting, Sri Lanka pulled off a brilliant run chase.
Sri Lanka scored 322/3 in 48.4 overs to register a historic win. Danushka Gunathilaka (76) and Kusal Mendis (89) shared a 159-run partnership while Angelo Mathews (52 not out) and Asela Gunaratne (34 not out) led the team to victory. Kusal Mendis was named Man of the Match in this match and it was also the highest successful run chase in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy.
1. Australia – 352 vs England (Lahore, 2025)
In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Australia made the biggest run chase in ICC Champions Trophy history against England in Lahore. They created history in this match by successfully chasing 352 runs with 15 balls to spare.
In this match, England batted first and scored a huge score of 351/8, in which Ben Duckett played a brilliant innings of 165 runs, which is the biggest innings in ICC Champions Trophy history. However, Australia’s Josh Inglis played an unbeaten innings of 120 runs in 86 balls and took his team to a score of 356/5 and registered a historic victory.
