Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades: The Hobart Hurricanes continued their flawless start to the WBBL season as they defeated the Melbourne Renegades by six wickets in a rain-affected match at North Sydney Oval. The victory took the Hurricanes two points clear at the top of the ladder and extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
Heather Graham shines with bat and ball
Heather Graham’s all-round excellence was the defining aspect of a Hobart Hurricanes versus Melbourne Renegades, WBBL match that saw rain and lightning interruptions twice.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades: Graham’s Bowling Breakthrough
In fact, it was Graham’s disciplined spell of 3 for 23 that prevented the Renegades from cashing in on a bright middle-overs recovery at important intervals. Chasing a revised target of 106 under DLS, Graham added a steady 14 off 12 balls*, guiding the Hurricanes home with an over to spare.
Carey and Villani Provide Batting Stability
The Hurricanes’ batting looked confident, all things considered, with the weather interruptions. Nicola Carey anchored the chase with a fluent 39 from 29 balls, setting up the early momentum. It was skipper Elyse Villani who sealed the win in style-smashing 12 off four deliveries to end the match decisively.
Villani praised the team’s depth and shared responsibility, saying:
“We’ve got real clarity, and no one feels the pressure to do it alone. It’s a genuine team effort.”
Renegades’ Missed Opportunity After Wareham’s Dynamic Knock. The Melbourne Renegades, last year’s champions, seemed set for a competitive total after a strong middle-overs surge.
Wareham Sparks the Fightback
At 23 for 3, the Renegades looked in a spot of bother before Georgia Wareham came up with a brilliant 41 off 26 balls to bail the innings out. The highlight of their effort was her 56-run partnership with England international Alice Capsey, who made 37.
There was a touch of drama when, on six, she was initially declared run-out, only for Hurricanes keeper Lizelle Lee to admit she had dropped the ball at the crucial moment.
Power Surge Momentum
The pair blasted 39 runs in the two-over power surge, with Wareham cutting and pulling four boundaries and a six in the first five balls of a Hayley Silver-Holmes over.
Late Overs Collapse However, once Wareham miscued the final ball of the surge and was caught, the Renegades lost steam and ultimately settled for a below-par total, later adjusted to 106 for the Hurricanes’ chase.
