Hockey India reveals 39-member core group for National Coaching Camp

Hockey India has unveiled a 39-member core group slated to participate in the men’s national coaching camp set to commence at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) facilities in Bengaluru from Wednesday.
This brief 11-day camp holds significance as it precedes the team’s journey to Cape Town, South Africa. There, they will compete in the highly anticipated 4 Nation Tournament against formidable opponents like France, the Netherlands, and hosts South Africa.
The South Africa Test event forms a crucial part of India’s meticulous preparations for the Paris Olympic Games. It also serves as a prime opportunity for exposure before their FIH Hockey Pro League campaign opener scheduled for February in Odisha. In this campaign, India is set to face off against Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, and Ireland in double-header games.

The core group selected for the National Coaching Camp comprises accomplished goalkeepers such as Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera, Pawan Malik, and Prashant Kumar Chauhan. Meanwhile, defenders like Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Surender Kumar, Varun Kumar, and others join the lineup.
The midfield segment boasts talents like Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, among others, while the forward line features players such as S. Karthi, Mandeep Singh, and more, showcasing a well-rounded and skilled contingent.
Indian Men’s Hockey Team Chief Coach Craig Fulton expressed his optimism, stating, “Our core group is quite solid with experienced players, and some of them named in this group will also be playing the FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman. This camp will focus on enhancing our teamwork as we gear up for a packed season.”
The coaching camp aims to fortify team dynamics and skill sets, aligning strategies for the upcoming high-stakes tournaments, underlining the determination of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team to excel on the global stage.
