The Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 is quickly approaching. It will be hosted in India at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneshwar and the Birsa Munda international hockey stadium in Rourkela. Air Marshall Nur Khan of Pakistan offered the World Cup to the FIH through World Hockey Magazine publisher Patrick Rowley. On October 26, 1969, their proposal was accepted, and on April 12, 1970, the FIH Council adopted it during a meeting in Brussels. Pakistan was supposed to host the first World Cup in 1971. That never occurred. Only six years before to the Bangladesh Liberation War, India and Pakistan were involved in a full-fledged conflict. 7. Pakistan will not compete in the 2023 World Cup.

8. The Netherlands are better at hockey than football.

Is India capable of winning the Hockey World Cup? The World Cup has been hosted by nine different countries throughout its existence. However, only the Netherlands and Germany have won it. Germany accomplished this feat in 2006 in Monchengladbach, due to a goal by Christopher Zeller in the 54th minute. The goal gave the Honabas a 4-3 lead and ultimately the victory.
The Dutch, in fact, were the first team to win as hosts in 1973. In the tournament’s second edition in Amstelveen, they defeated India. In 1998, they won again in Utrecht. They defeated Spain 3-2 in extra time this time.
10. Which continent has won the most World Cups in hockey?
The European continent possesses the most World Cup medals. They have six titles under their belt. The Netherlands took three victories, Germany two, and Belgium one. The Red Lions were the most recent addition, having won the previous edition’s world cup in 2018.
Asia comes in second with five titles. Pakistan holds three of these four titles, while India holds one. Oceania comes next with three championships. Ironically, all of those titles are Australian. America and Africa have yet to open their books.
