Hong Kong Sixes 2025: When it’s India vs Pakistan, the tension is always sky-high. Just over a month after their face-off in the Asia Cup 2025, the arch-rivals met again, this time at the Hong Kong Sixes tournament. And just like their past encounters, this one had drama, excitement, and a twist from the weather gods. Dinesh Karthik’s Indian side defeated Abbas Afridi’s Pakistan by just two runs via the DLS method in a rain-affected match.
Hong Kong Sixes 2025: Rain Got in Pakistan’s Way vs India
Chasing a target of 87 in six overs, Pakistan were going strong at 41/1 after three overs when rain decided to interrupt the high-voltage game. Unfortunately, play couldn’t resume, and India were declared winners with a two-run lead under the DLS calculation. Stuart Binny was the standout performer with the ball, taking 1/7 in his over.
Robin Uthappa Leads the Way
Earlier in the match, India put up 86/4 in their allotted six overs, with Robin Uthappa playing a crucial knock of 28 runs. For Pakistan, it was the second over of the chase that proved costly, as they couldn’t score enough runs in that phase, something that ultimately worked against them once rain came into play. The result gave India a strong start in their group, while Pakistan now has to regroup and bounce back quickly.
The Origins of the Hong Kong Sixes
The Hong Kong Sixes has been around since the early 1990s and is famous for its fast-paced, entertaining brand of cricket. The event was first held from 1993 to 1997 before making comebacks in 2001 and 2012. After another revival in 2024, the tournament seems to be firmly back on the cricket calendar, offering fans plenty of quickfire action.
India’s Continued Dominance Over Pakistan
Whether it’s T20Is, ODIs, or now the Sixes format, India continues to hold the upper hand over Pakistan in 2025. Earlier this year, the Indian women’s team also defeated Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup, adding to their dominance across both men’s and women’s cricket. Pakistan will be eager to turn things around soon, but for now, India’s supremacy continues.
