New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult is hoping to play the second Test match of the two-match Test series between hosts England and New Zealand. The second Test match will be starting from June 10-14 at Edgbaston.
Boult was given some time off to be with his family post-Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 suspension earlier this month. Boult plays for five-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians.
Meanwhile, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead had revealed that “it’s unlikely that he (Trent Boult) will play the Test at Edgbaston. And he’s more likely to be just available for the one-off Test.”
Boult who has 281 wickets in Tests said he is hopeful to play the second Test. “Everything is feeling good with what lies ahead, a big stage for the World Test Championship final, and hopefully I can get over there and be part of that second test as well.”
Boult is excited and along with his team, plans to create history in the inaugural World Test Championship final against India after the England series.
“To get into that final and get this opportunity, the excitement is ramping up now and once I step foot in the UK. Once I smell that English fresh air and see the (Duke) ball move about, I’ll be excited. The way this group has traveled in New Zealand and around the world, I think the boys are in a great place to create a bit of history.”
New Zealand and Australia use Kookaburra balls in cricket. Asked about Duke’s ball which is going to be used in England, Boult stated that it reacts differently.
“I haven’t had too much experience with it, played a handful of Tests over in England. It reacts a lot differently, then you have to weigh in all these different venues. I’m sure the boys are very excited to get it in their hands and see it move around, hopefully, we can entertain you a little bit over the next wee while (short while).” Trent Boult added while he is practicing at the Bay Oval.
Trent Boult is practicing at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, will fly to the UK on June 4. Trent Boult has been named in the squad for the England tours. New Zealand and England will lock horns in the first Test at Lord’s from June 2-6. The second clash will be played at Edgbaston from June 10-14. Then NZ will face India in the WTC final from June 18-22 at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
