Matchday 30 of the Premier League is behind us and the title race is leading to a dramatic end. Liverpool hosting Arsenal was the most important match of Matchday 30. Arsenal who were leading second-placed, Manchester City by 8 points going into the weekend are now just leading by 6 points. With City having played one less game the lead could virtually be lowered to just 3 points.
Premier League Matchday 30
Manchester City gained three points at the St. Mary’s Stadium where they defeated bottom placed, Southampton FC. City smashed The Saints in their own backyard by a 4-1 margin. Erling Haaland scored a brace while Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez scored once from City. Sekou Mara scored the solitary goal for Southampton FC.
In the last match of Matchday 30, all eyes were on the Gunners as they travelled to Merseyside to face off against Liverpool at Anfield. It was a great first-half performance by the table leaders at Anfield as Gabriel Martinelli scored in the eighth minute. The lead was doubled after 20 minutes as Gabriel Jesus scored in the 28th minute. Arsenal nearly kept a clean sheet in the first half but it was the star forward from Liverpool, Mohammed Salah who scored late in the first half to make the scoreline 2-1 leading into the second half. In the 78th minute, Roberto Firmino came off the bench replacing mid-fielder Fabinho. Firmino made a mark on the game in less than 10 minutes as he scored to draw the game.
Many would say that leading by two goals, Arsenal would be disappointed having not gone home with three points. But as history would suggest, Anfield is one place where no lead is considered to be safe. Any other place and drawing the game after a 2-goal lead is considered to be ‘bottling’ but at Anfield walking away with one point, Mikel Arteta’s side won’t be too disappointed.
Premier League title race
It will be tough for Arsenal to keep City at bay who are becoming more favourites to snatch the league from Arsenal after every passing week. Manchester City with a game in hand and relatively easier fixtures ahead would give themselves great chance to win the league. All eyes would be on the match between Arsenal and Manchester City on the 26th of April as the Premier League title race gets heated.
