The Hungarian Grand Prix 2025 was an absolute nail-biter for everyone, no matter if you’re just a casual watcher or a hardcore F1 fan. It was a day marked by strategy, skill, and intense drama that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

Lando Norris, driving for McLaren, ended up taking the win after an intense battle with Oscar Piastri in the last five laps to maintain the lead. This win is McLaren’s seventh 1-2 podium finish of this season. Meanwhile, pole sitter Charles Leclerc finished in fourth position after facing a bad strategy, which is classic Ferrari, and a five-second penalty. George Russell somehow managed to share the podium in third position with the Papaya boys. Apart from this, the race gave up full drama, so let’s get into it.

As It Happened:  Hungarian Grand Prix 2025

A Tough Start

Right from the first lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix 2025, the battle was intense. As soon as the race started, Leclerc started in the pole position and was chased by Oscar Piastri, while Lando Norris, who started in third, was overtaken by Fernando Alonso and George Russell, dropping him to the fifth position.

While all this was happening, Lewis Hamilton was also passed by the driver he replaced, and the driver who replaced him, aka Carlos Sainz and Kimi Antonelli, and dropped him to further lower positions, and his hard tires were not helping. Lando Norris eventually took up the fourth position from Alonso.

Pit Stop Strategy? More Like Winning Strategy

It all came down to a pit stop strategy, and boy, was it a tough call for McLaren today. The team was constantly talking over the radio to debating whether to go for a one-stop or a two-stop strategy today. After the first round of pit stops, both McLaren drivers agreed to a one-pit stop; however, Oscar Piastri couldn’t manage his tires well and had to go for a two-pit stop, as did the others on the grid.

But there was one man who still thrived on a one-pit stop, and that was Lando Norris. This strategy and beautiful management of tires gave him the lead of the race, and as the Hungarian Grand Prix 2025 reached its ending laps, the real show began.

The Ending: Real Cinema

Lando Norris was being chased by the championship leader, Oscar Piastri, while George Russell confirmed his third position as Charles Leclerc was handed down with a 5-second penalty. The ending laps were pure cinema as both Papaya boys were only away from each other for half a second during the whole five ending laps. Piastri even came close to taking the lead, but Lando Norris defended his position in the best way possible and finally crossed the finish line by less than a second. George Russell managed to get the podium as the cool temperature of the race seemed to favor Mercedes, while Ferrari suffered another nightmare of a weekend.

Charles Leclerc vs Ferrari

Charles Leclerc (PC: F1)

Charles Leclerc finished fourth while Lewis Hamilton finished in 12th position. Leclerc was heard having discussions with his team about a potential strategy or move that apparently cost him the win and the podium. Later on he explained that the car was having troubles with the chassis and it wasn’t in their control and he that he misinterpreted it during the race, leading to the frustration.

Hamilton had already lost hope before the race, as he said he was useless and the team should replace him. Ferrari really did mess up big time at the Hungarian Grand Prix 2025 and didn’t seem to care about Leclerc’s frustration either, as they never replied to any of his comments.

Aston Martin’s Dream Weekend

Meanwhile, it was a pretty good weekend for Aston Martin as they witnessed their best result of the season, giving them a morale boost before the summer break. Fernando Alonso finished in P5 while Lance Stroll finished in P7. It was also a better day for Sauber as Bortoleto finished P6 and also became the Driver of the day.
