The world’s richest person, Elon Musk says he is buying English football Club Manchester United. However, Musk did not share more details with follow-up tweets. Interestingly, Musk has a history of posting non-related Tweets and henceforth it is not clear whether he plans to take up a deal.
United is one of the most popular clubs with a rich history but however, of late, they face a slump in form. The fans demand an ownership change and a new beginning for the club.
“I’m buying Manchester United ur (sic) welcome,” Musk said in a tweet. Manchester United has over 32 million followers on Twitter. As a result, Musk’s tweet garnered over 2 lakh ‘likes’ within two hours.
Musk’s post was a follow-on comment to a previous tweet: “To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!” Manchester United is controlled by the American Glazer family.
One of the richest clubs in the market, Forbes rated Manchester United as the third most valuable football club in the world in latest rankings. Its assets are worth $4.6 billion, behind only Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. The Glazers had acquired the club in 2005 for $957 million. Meanwhile, United are placed at the bottom of the English Premier League after losing their first two games.
