Mayank Agarwal is currently competing in the Maharaja Trophy where he’s led his team Bangalore Blasters through to the finals. The Punjab Kings captain has made part in the Indian test side as the opener many times. However, currently, he’s on a dry spell from the international point of view. The batter, however, hasn’t let the omission damp his passion to play for the country.

In a recent interaction, Agarwal emphasised that playing for India will always be a priority for him. “I am somebody who isn’t going to give up,” said Agarwal about playing in the Indian team.

“I am going to keep chasing it and improve my game with each passing day. I will be very happy with whatever comes my way, but the aspirations and dreams never die,” the opening batter added. “It’s about going out there, improving and ticking all those boxes.”

The last IPL season, a performing stage for aspiring players didn’t go well for Agarwal. During the later half of the tournament, Agarwal as the captain demoted himself from the opening position to give an edge to the team. However, Agarwal has improved his game a lot since then. In the ongoing Maharaja Trophy, he has scored 480 runs within 11 innings at a strike rate of 167.24. Moreover, he has also scored two centuries in the tournament.

“In the last four months, I’ve really worked hard on my batting. As you can see, I’ve started sweeping and reverse-sweeping the ball, that too against the fast bowlers,” Agarwal said giving an insight into his improvement. “I’ve opened up four-five areas in my game which are paying rich dividends. I am very happy that the hard work I put in is paying off now,” he added.

“Getting two hundreds in a T20 tournament like the Maharaja Trophy feels amazing. It feels really nice when the players respond to you the way you want. Obviously runs behind my back really makes me feel good and then I can lead from the front,” he said.
