New Zealand all-rounder, James Neesham is all clear about his plans. The star all-rounder wants to honour his pre-arranged commitments to play in the T20 leagues around the world. Because it is a priority for him. As a result, he has declined an offer by New Zealand Cricket for signing a new contract for selection to the national side.
Blair Tickner and Finn Allen have been given their first NZ central contracts, while fast-bowling all-rounder James Neesham has declined one after initially being ignored from the original list earlier this year.

The experienced player was unnamed in the initial 20-man list of central contracts for the 2022-23 season. After announcing the decision, the all-rounder issued a clarification on social media. “I know the news of my decision to decline a central contract today, is seen as me choosing money over representing my country,” Neesham wrote on his Instagram account.

Talking about the decision to play in T20Is, the New Zealand World Cup campaigner said he had planned to accept a contract offer in July. This plan was taken after being left out of the list of contracted players. The talented all-rounder added it was a difficult decision, but could not go back on his word to re-sign for the contract.

The experienced campaigner added that playing for the country has been his biggest honour. Incidentally, Neesham revealed he is ready to take the field for his country in the future. Meanwhile, he expressed a desire to take part in world events for New Zealand.
Trent Boult’s decision set a trend
Neesha is the second major cricketer from New Zealand to opt out of NZC contract. Earlier, pacer Trent Boult became the first New Zealand cricketer to do so, citing global leagues happening in and around the world. Neesham has played 12 Tests, 71 ODIs, and 48 T20Is for the Kiwis. He scored 709, 1409, and 607 runs, respectively.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand cricket team also awarded contracts to opening batter Fin Allen and pacer Blair Tickner. Neesham starred for New Zealand in the 2019 ICC World Cup and his all-round show nearly awarded them the World Cup, before Ben Stokes took the stage, and delivered a match-winning show for England to lift the cup.
