Liam Livingstone’s Poor Form Raises Concerns For England
Liam Livingstone was dismissed for a low score against the South Africa National Cricket Team at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday, March 1. Livingstone struggled to perform for England in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
In his first two matches, he scored 14 and 10, while with the ball, his figures were 1/47 and 2/28. In the third match, he had a poor outing with the bat, getting out in the 22nd over and leaving England in trouble at 114/6.
Embarrassing Dismissal: Livingstone’s Poor Decision Costs England
On the fourth ball of the over, Keshav Maharaj bowled a slow, looping delivery as he noticed Livingstone charging down the pitch. Livingstone tried to hit the ball across the line, but it dipped and turned sharply, beating his outside edge. Heinrich Klaasen quickly collected the ball and had plenty of time to whip off the bails as Livingstone was far out of his crease.
It was a poor dismissal, one that likely frustrated England head coach Brendon McCullum. Livingstone went for an unnecessary shot and handed Klaasen an easy stumping opportunity.
Liam Livingstone was dismissed for just 9 runs off 15 balls, and this wasn’t the first time he got out while charging down the track in ODIs. Overall, when he comes down the track, he has scored 97 runs off 62 balls but has been dismissed 8 times, with an average of only 12.12.
England’s campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 ended with a shock defeat to Afghanistan by 8 runs in Lahore. Afghanistan posted a massive total of 325/7, with Ibrahim Zadran scoring a historic 177 runs off 146 balls.
Jofra Archer took 3 wickets for 64 runs, but Afghanistan recovered thanks to key contributions from Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi (40), Azmatullah Omarzai (41), and Mohammad Nabi (40).
Chasing 326, England lost early wickets, with Phil Salt (12) and Jamie Smith (9) dismissed cheaply. Joe Root played a brilliant knock of 120 runs off 111 balls, his first ODI century since 2019. Despite support from Ben Duckett (38), Jos Buttler (38), and Jamie Overton (32), Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by Azmatullah Omarzai (5/58), kept taking regular wickets. England were bowled out for 317 in 49.5 overs, falling just short.
