The West Indies have been hit with another fine from the ICC, this time for a slow over rate in the fourth T20I against Australia. The team has been penalized 10% of their match fees for not bowling their overs quickly enough during the game.
This match was another tough one for the Windies, as Australia came out on top yet again. The Aussies have now won seven games in a row, continuing their dominant run, while the West Indies have had to deal with both defeats and ICC sanctions.
Despite being high-scoring thrillers, some even featuring 200+ chases, Australia has managed to stay in control throughout the series.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are fined 5% of their match fee for every over they fail to bowl in the required time. Since the West Indies fell behind, they were penalized accordingly.
West Indies captain Shai Hope accepted the fine without contest, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
Cameron Green Shines in Aussie Comeback
On the Australian side, all-rounder Cameron Green has been in great form. After recovering from injury and making his comeback in the World Test Championship Final against South Africa, he’s now making waves in the T20s too.
Green has scored three back-to-back half-centuries during this tour of the West Indies and has looked comfortable in a new batting position. His performances have played a big role in Australia’s winning streak.
Australia Eyes Squad Refresh Ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup
With the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 set to be played in India, Australia appears to be testing out fresh combinations and new faces in preparation. The Aussies last lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in India, and their players, many of whom play in the IPL, are no strangers to the batting-friendly conditions there.
In the ongoing T20 series against the West Indies, Australia has been dominant. Cameron Green’s unbeaten third half-century, scored in just 35 balls, helped the team take a commanding 4-0 lead. They had already sealed the series in the previous game, where Tim David smashed the fastest T20 hundred by an Australian batter.
New Faces and Fresh Batting Combinations
Australia is clearly experimenting with its lineup. Glenn Maxwell has been moved up the order to bat alongside captain Mitchell Marsh, while Travis Head was left out of this series altogether.
Tim David, despite his record-breaking century, didn’t feature in the fourth T20. His absence opened the door for Aaron Hardie to come into the side, while young Cooper Connolly continues to get opportunities to prove himself.
One of the most exciting additions is Mitchell Owen, who has earned his spot thanks to his impressive all-round performances in the shorter format. His stint with Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket (MLC) likely helped catch the selectors’ eyes. Owen made a strong start to his international career, scoring a half-century on debut and showing promise with the bat.
As the countdown to the 2026 World Cup begins, it’s clear Australia is building depth and versatility across the board, especially in the batting department.
