A clear message has been given by ICC to USA Cricket
In its annual meeting, a clear update was shared by ICC that USA Cricket is still under notice. Free and fair elections must be completed by the board within three months, and full reforms must be done in its governance system.
A notice had already been received by USA Cricket
In July 2023, a notice was given by ICC to USA Cricket for not following its governance rules. This happened after the T20 World Cup was co-hosted by USA along with West Indies. Even after that, no proper changes were made by the board.
Olympic 2028 entry must be earned through reforms
If cricket is to be included in Los Angeles Olympics 2028, then national governing body status must be received by USA Cricket from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. That can only happen if proper transparency is shown by their internal system.
A suspension was discussed but a final chance is now given
Reports had said that USA Cricket could be suspended by ICC. But because the Olympic future is also linked, one more chance has now been given by ICC to the board to fix everything. If nothing changes within three months, then suspension is almost certain.
The chance must be used wisely by USA
Only three months are now left with USA to correct its mistakes. If reforms and elections are not completed in time, then its global position may be lost and the Olympic dream may also break. A clear message has been given by ICC and the decision is now in USA Cricket’s hands.
