ICC Men’s Rankings (Bowling): R Ashwin Retains Top Spot While Keshav Maharaj Leads ODI Ranks
ICC Men’s Rankings: India’s sensational cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has retained the top spot in the Test bowling in the ICC Men’s Test rankings while Keshav Maharaj continued to be the number 1 bowler in the ODI format as per the latest list on September 24.
R Ashwin Shines in ICC Men’s Rankings
R Ashwin had an amazing outing with both bat and the ball in the recently concluded India vs Bangladesh Test in Chennai, which the hosts won by 280 runs. Ashwin picked up a six-wicket haul in the second innings to go with his century in the first innings of the first Test and was adjudged the Player of the Match. R Ashwin recorded a unique double feat by scoring a hundred and picking up five wickets in the same game.
India’s Top Performers: Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja
Meanwhile, India’s sensational pacer Jasprit Bumrah is sitting in the second spot in the list with spinner Ravindra Jadeja the other Indian in the top 10 at sixth in the ICC Men’s Rankings.
The Jadeja-Bumrah-Ashwin trio, which rescued India from a batting crisis with a 199-run partnership in the first Test against Bangladesh, has once again solidified their position as the top-ranked all-rounders.
Keshav Maharaj: The ODI Bowling King
In ODIs, Keshav Maharaj remained at the top of the bowlers’ list in the ICC Men’s rankings. Keshav Maharaj had a good ODI World Cup campaign in 2023 in India, where he picked up 15 wickets from 10 games at an average of 24.66 and a strike rate of 35.60.
Keshav Maharaj was the third-highest wicket-taker for South Africa in the World Cup and his exploits helped his team reach the semi-finals and took him to the top spot in the ICC ODI bowlers’ list.
Jayasuriya’s Impressive Ascent in Test Bowling
Notably, the Sri Lanka-New Zealand Test in Galle has caused significant shifts in the ICC Test Men’s Bowling Rankings. Prabath Jayasuriya has strengthened his reputation as one of the game’s top spinners, climbing five spots to eighth place after his impressive nine-wicket haul.
Jayasuriya, with 743 ranking points, is Sri Lanka’s highest-ranked player across all formats, surpassing Asitha Fernando, who dropped to 13th with 700 points. Kamindu Mendis moved up to 16th in the batting rankings, while Dhananjaya de Silva climbed to 18th among all-rounders following their recent victory.
