ICC WTC 2025 Final: The ICC has made a huge change in the prize money for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). As the final match is approaching, the ICC has also launched a promotional video in which some current and former cricketers are also seen.
The winner of the WTC Final to be held at Lord’s between June 11-15 will get $3.6 million. This amount is more than double the prize money received by the two previous champions, New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2023).
The team that loses the final will also get more than $2.1 million. In the first edition, the winning team got $1.6 million and the runner-up got $800,000.
This increase in prize money shows that Ichchha is serious about Test cricket and wants the format to become stronger after three cycles of Test cricket.
In this edition, South Africa won the home series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan 2-0 and finished with 69.44% points. Australia finished second with 67.54% points. India led the table for a long time but finished third in the final with 50.00% points.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah wished both finalist teams and said that fans will get to see world-class Test cricket at Lord’s.
He said, “The competition was very tough in this WTC cycle and the final teams were decided till the last moment. Both these teams fully deserve to reach the final. This final Test cricket match at Lord’s will be a grand celebration.”
Australia captain Pat Cummins said that defending the WTC title is a matter of pride for his team. “Playing at Lord’s and winning the final is a great opportunity for us. This is the result of hard work of the last 2 years.”
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma also showed excitement. He said, “WTC final is a great opportunity to win the ICC title. This competition in Test format gives a new direction to the game. We are ready to face Australia with full focus.”
Now less than a month is left till the final, and fans are eagerly waiting for this big clash of Australia vs South Africa.
