ICC WTC Final: Selection committee to pick an Indian Test squad for WTC today
Selectors have a good headache to pick a side among many players who are in form.
National Selection Committee will pick a giant 25 member squad from 35 probable players for World Test Championship (WTC) finals to be held in England starting from June 18.
Also, Committee will pick a squad for India’s tour of England for five test match series starting from August 4th. It will be a two-month-long tour under challenging conditions.
The focus would be on settling opening slots and the challenge would be to pick the best lower middle order and bowlers especially spinners with Ashwin and Jadeja both being fit to play.
In form, Prithvi Shaw (308 in 8 matches in IPL) will be directly up against Shubhman Gill who had a forget able England series in India. KL Rahul too would be hopeful for a test call as he would be eager to make a mark in test matches too.
Another player who may cut is Prasidh Krishna, after making a debut recently (March) in England series in the 50 over leg at home. Hardik Pandya after recovering from injury played in the IPL but did not bowl, hence is mostly like to make a comeback to fill in all-rounders slots and replicate 2018’s performance in England.
It would be a toss-up between a fit Hardik Pandya and Australian Tour’s Sydney hero Hanuma Vihari who is also fit after a hamstring injury. Captain Kohli would also have a tough time deciding whether to go with one or two spinners. Will it be Jadeja or Ashwin?
