The IIHF Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark from May 9 to 25.
A total of 16 men’s teams will compete for the title. They have been split into two groups of eight teams, playing each other once in the group stage.
Group A plays in Stockholm at the Avicii Arena while Group B plays at Herning’s Jyske Bank Boxen at 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship.

The top four teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, which will be played cross-group with the top-ranked team in each group facing the fourth-ranked team from the other. Each second-placed team will play the other group’s third-placed team.
The semi-finalists will then be reseeded based on their group stage results to determine last-four matchups.
Each host city will host two quarter-finals in addition to their group stage games, while the semi-finals and medal matches will be played in Stockholm.
The two teams who finish bottom in the final ranking will be relegated from the top division of the World Championship and play in Division I Group A next year.
They will be replaced in 2026 by Great Britain and Italy, who won promotion from Division I A in 2025.
