Iceland Cricket has once again taken a playful swipe at the Pakistan Cricket Board amid growing uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7.
Pakistan is expected to clarify its position either on Friday or Monday, following a meeting between PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The situation has been tense since the International Cricket Council recently removed Bangladesh from the tournament and replaced it with Scotland. That move came after Bangladesh restated its refusal to tour India for the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns.
Iceland Cricket joins the conversation
Reacting to the ongoing speculation, Iceland Cricket used humour to weigh in on the situation. On Wednesday, the associate nation joked that it is ready to step in if Pakistan decides to boycott the tournament.
“We really need Pakistan to decide soon upon their participation in the T20 WC. We are ready to take off as soon as they pull out on 2nd Feb, but the flight schedule is a logistical nightmare to get us to Colombo in good time for 7th Feb. Our opening bat is an insomniac!” Iceland Cricket wrote in a post on X.
To add to the joke, the account also shared a screenshot of travel plans from Keflavik to Colombo, poking fun at how unrealistic a last-minute call-up would be.

PCB yet to make a final call
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, after meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, confirmed that all options remain open. He said a final decision on Pakistan’s participation would be made by either Friday or next Monday.
Pakistan has been vocal in its opposition to the ICC’s decision to replace Bangladesh with Scotland. The Pakistan Cricket Board has stood by Bangladesh’s position after the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the country’s interim government said they would not play T20 World Cup matches in India due to security concerns.
Squad announced despite uncertainty
Despite the ongoing debate, Pakistan has gone ahead and announced its squad for the 20-team T20 World Cup. With one exception, the selected squad is the same group of players set to face Australia in the upcoming series.
As the countdown to the tournament continues, all eyes are now on Pakistan’s final decision and whether the ICC will be forced to make yet another last-minute change.
