Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury just hours before the first T20I against South Africa. There is no clarity yet on the extent and seriousness of his injury. Meanwhile, he has been sent to the National Cricket Academy for expert opinion. The 28-year-old is the undisputed leader of the Indian pace attack.

The Indian team leaves for Australia on October 6. They’d have to gain clarity on Bumrah’s availability quickly because there isn’t enough time in their hands. Talking about Bumrah’s injury, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said a decision is expected in two or three days. The former Indian captain did not rule out the Ahmedabad pacer from the squad, yet.
Why Bumrah is vital for Team India?
Since his debut in 2016, Bumrah emerged as the vital cog in the team with his sharp and incise bowling. He has become the go-to-bowler with the new ball and at the death. His all-format brilliance means Boom Boom needs more time to take due care of his body. He had an injury-free career in the first four years of his career.

But things began to change after Covid. He missed the fourth Test against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Series 2020-21. It was just the beginning of the story as he was absent in several major tournaments in recent times. But the team can ill afford to do that, as Bumrah is important to the team. The speedster is what Virat Kohli is in Indian batting.
When will Jasprit Bumrah return?
There is no update about his injury at present. BCCI adopted a wait-and-watch approach, as they do not want to take an early call. They’d like to give him the benefit of time for recovery.
Can’t thank these men enough for their hardwork, expertise and all the hours they’ve put in to help me get back to the game 🏏 pic.twitter.com/kq3kSTleWE

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will be keen to keep his fitness in mind, and not continue his long stint with injuries. Coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma also have a big role, along with selectors, to take care of his injury management.
