Former India captain Virat Kohli reached a new low in one-day international cricket on Friday, bowling a two-ball duck in the third and final game of the series against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Kohli was trapped down the leg side as he attempted to flick Alzarri Joseph’s delivery past the wicketkeeper, but it only received a tiny tickle and landed straight into the hands of Shai Hope. As Kohli went back with an embarrassed smirk on his face, India lost two wickets in three deliveries, both of which were bowled by Joseph. This was also his lowest score against the West Indies, who remain one of his favorite opponents in the format, and it was only his second ODI series against the Caribbean country in which he failed to register at least one half-century.
The tally of 15 ducks by an Indian No.3 batsman in ODIs is the most by an Indian No.3 batter. Overall, Kohli is one behind Ricky Ponting’s record greatest total of 16.
