The Indian National Cricket Team contingent led by Captain Rohit Sharma was defeated by four wickets in the 1st T20 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh on Tuesday, September 20, by the world cricketing champions, Australia.
The flying Kangaroos recorded their highest ever run chase against India and defeated the men in blue rather comfortably by chasing down a formidable target of 209 runs in 19.2 overs.
The openers of the Indian cricket team, including Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (11) and former Indian captain Virat Kohli (2) failed to perform. The iconic players couldn’t make any major contribution to the team in the match against Australia.
It was other players including KL Rahul (55), Hardik Pandya (71) and Suryakumar Yadav (46) who played a sensational inning and made India score a formidable 208 against the Aussies.
During the presentation ceremony held after the match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment with the squad of Indian bowlers and their average performance on the ground.
The captain of the Indian team mentioned that 200 is always a good target to defend, but Aaron Finch’s Australian cricket team could easily chase down the target because the bowling unit of India didn’t perform well on the ground. Although quite sceptical about the bowling squad of India, the skipper was pleased with the performance of the Indian batters who played a sensational innings on the ground of Mohali.
“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances on the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but the bowlers were quite not there. There are things we need to look at.” The disappointed captain of the Indian cricket team said.
Before signing off from the presentation ceremony, The Captain of the Indian National Cricket team also praised Hardik Pandya for playing some extraordinary shots in his sensational innings, the skipper also added that as a team they will have to do some work on the bowling unit before the next matches.
“We were not able to take their wicket. That was the turning point. If we would have taken wickets, things would have been different. You can’t score 200 every day, you need to bat well. Hardik batted really well to get us there. We need to look at our bowling before the next game.” The captain added.
