Coming out with an incredible turnaround in the rain-affected thrilling encounter in the match of IND vs BAN, Under 19 World Cup, India achieved an emphatic victory of 18 runs over Bangladesh.
Sooryavanshi Shines in a Match Full of Drama
It was a game that had everything, rain interruptions, DLS calculations, some drama on the park, and finally, an exciting finish. But amid all that, it was 72 from the classy right-hander Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at a very good strike-rate, followed by a leaping boundary catch, which tilted the game India’s way.
A 50-over match was to begin, and Sooryavanshi was dominating the Indian innings. However, upon his dismissal in the 27th over, India had scored 115 runs in total, out of which Sooryavanshi had scored 72. This clearly reflects that the rest of the Indian batters had scored a paltry 35 runs.
Abhigyan Kundu Anchors India’s Innings
After rain reduced the innings to 49 overs, Abhigyan Kundu held the Indian innings together with a composed 80 off 112 balls. His patient knock ensured India reached a competitive 238-run total. Bangladesh seamer Al Fahad impressed with figures of 5-38, including the key wicket of Kundu, but India’s total proved just enough.
Bangladesh Collapse After DLS Twist
Bangladesh, in chase of 239, were cruising at 106/2 when rain stopped play again and reduced the target to 165 in 29 overs. Bangladesh required 75 runs in 70 balls when play resumed and seemed to be on track.
However, as the situation settled and the rain stayed away, Bangladesh were forced to change gears. Their plan of slowing down to get more rain proved to be disastrous for them.
Vihaan Malhotra Turns the Match on Its Head
Off-spinner Vihaan Malhotra bowled an innings-winning spell of 4-14 in four overs, sparking a dreadful collapse. The skipper of Bangladesh, Azizul Hakim, who had not been present for the toss due to his illness, got 51 off 72 balls, which changed the course of the game.
Being on a dominant position, they lost eight wickets on just 46 runs, and India won a remarkable comeback match of IND vs BAN, Under 19 World Cup.
Under 19 World Cup: Sri Lanka Crush Japan with Record Opening Stand
In another comprehensive display in the Under 19 World Cup, Sri Lanka overpowered Japan by 203 runs, in an innings characterized by a gargantuan opening partnership.
Chamuditha and Mahavithana Bat Asia Minor Out of the Game
The openers, Viran Chamuditha and Dimantha Mahavithana, made a monumental 328-run opening stand, effectively wrapping up the match early on. Viran Chamuditha made a sublime knock of 192, which itself was above the match total of Japan, while Dimantha Mahavithana made a silky smooth 115.
Chamuditha recorded his inning at a strike rate of 134, including 26 fours and a six, while Mahavithana’s innings consisted of 11 fours before he got run out in the 44th over.
Late Acceleration Pushes Sri Lanka to 387
Even as it slowed down momentarily and lost three wickets in four overs, Sri Lanka captain Vimath Dinsara gave his team a good finish with an unbeaten 44 off 24 balls, pushing Sri Lanka’s total to 387/4.
Japan’s Lone Resistance Falls Short
Japan never built any momentum in the match, having lost one wicket early on and not having managed to forge much of a partnership. Hugo Kelly was a lone star in the match, unbeaten on 101.
Japan eventually finished on 184 for 8 as no batsman surpassed the 20-run mark as Sri Lanka began their Under-19 World Cup on a dominating note.
