IND vs ENG: The controversial dismissals of Indian batsmen raised questions on umpire’s soft signals

The ongoing fourth T20I between India and England become controversial when Indian batsmen Surya Kumar Yadav and Washington Sundar were given out after on the basis of the soft signals given by the on-field umpires even though the decisions should be in favor of India if the technology gets involved.

The third umpire gave both batsmen out because of insufficient pieces of evidence to clarify whether they are out or not. However, it was visible that both decisions were made against the hosts because of the on-field umpire’s soft signal that was OUT.

In the 14th over, the spell of Sam Curran, Surya tried to hit big but get caught by Malan. The umpire gave the soft signal of out but referred the decision to the third umpire. However, lack of conclusive evidence helped England to get the big fish. The bowl was seemed to touch the ground while Malan took the catch but according to the rule of lack of conclusive evidence the decision was not reversed.

The same thing happened in the final over of the match when Washington Sundar went for big against Jofra Archer. Adil Rashid took the catch at the boundary line but when the dismissal was referred to the third umpire, the feet of Rashid was seemed to touch the boundary rope. But again the lack of conclusive evidence and the soft signal of OUT made Sundar went back to the pavilion.
