IND vs NZ: India-New Zealand are in a battle for the Champions Trophy, but what if it rains? Know the special rule of ICC
India vs New Zealand, ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The final of the cricket’s great Kumbh Champions Trophy 2025 will be played on March 9 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where India and New Zealand teams will face each other. This will be the second match of the two teams in the tournament, earlier India defeated New Zealand in the group stage, but now the trophy is at stake, so both teams will put in their best efforts. However, the big question is that if the final match is canceled due to rain or any other reason, then who will become the champion?
What happens if the IND vs NZ final is cancelled?
So far, three matches have been washed out due to rain in the Champions Trophy 2025. This time ICC has made special rules for the knockout matches.
IND vs NZ final: Arrangement of reserve day
March 10 has been kept as reserve day for the final, if the match is not completed on March 9, then the match will start the next day from where it was stopped.
IND vs NZ final: Use of Duckworth Lewis rule
If it rains during the match and the overs are not completed, then DLS (Duckworth-Lewis) rule will be applied. But for this it is necessary that both the teams play at least 25-25 overs.
IND vs NZ final: What will happen if the match is cancelled completely?
If the match is not completed despite the reserve day and no result is reached, then India and New Zealand will be declared joint winners.
This has happened before as well So far, it has happened only once in the history of the Champions Trophy that the trophy had to be shared due to the final being cancelled. The final match played between India and Sri Lanka in the Champions Tournament 2002 could not be completed due to rain. Then the entire match was played on the reserve day as well, but due to continuous rain no result could be achieved and both the teams were declared joint winners.
IND vs NZ final: Will history repeat itself this time too?
Both India and New Zealand are in great form, but it will be interesting to see what the weather will be like in Dubai. Cricket fans will hope that this match lasts for the full 100 overs and one team becomes the champion, but if rain spoils the game, then like 2002, we may once again see two champions.
