IND vs SA: The Gautam Gambhir coached Indian team faced a tough reality on Wednesday as South Africa completed a dominant 2 0 Test series win. The visitors were ruthless from start to finish, sealing the series with a massive 408-run victory in the second Test.
This was not only India’s biggest Test defeat ever, but also South Africa’s first series win in the country since 2000. For India, it marked a second home whitewash in just 13 months, putting their World Test Championship hopes in serious trouble.
Fans Turn Against Gautam Gambhir After Another Home Whitewash
Under Gautam Gambhir, India has now lost five home Tests to New Zealand and South Africa combined. The frustration among fans was clear in Guwahati, where chants of “Gautam Gambhir hai hai” echoed around the stadium after the defeat. South Africa Dominates From Start to Finish
The series decider in Guwahati turned into a showcase of South African control. Their innings started cautiously but soon grew into a huge total. Senuran Muthusamy played a steady hand with 109, while Marco Jansen added a powerful 93, helping them reach 489. Jansen then switched to bowling and produced a stunning spell of 6 for 48, ripping through India as they were bowled out for 201.
South Africa did not ease up in their second innings. Tristan Stubbs scored a composed 94, guiding the team to 260 for 5 before they declared. The target was far out of reach for India, and Simon Harmer, who had starred in Kolkata as well, finished the job with another brilliant performance of 6 for 37 on the final day.
India Show Fight but Lack Consistency
India had a few bright moments, but they were never enough to shift the momentum. Sai Sudarshan played with maturity, and Ravindra Jadeja’s determined 54 gave the home crowd some hope. However, the collapse that followed highlighted deeper problems within the team. India looked unsure of their combinations, their approach, and their overall rhythm throughout the series.
Growing Pressure on Team Management
Off the field, the noise is only getting louder. Former players, experts, and fans are questioning everything from team selection to game plans. With two heavy home defeats in a year, the spotlight is firmly on head coach Gautam Gambhir. Reports suggest that BCCI officials are likely to ask for clear explanations from both Gambhir and the team management as they assess what went wrong and what needs to change.
