IND vs SA: India has once again run into major trouble in a home Test series. South Africa has put them under pressure throughout the two-match contest, winning the first Test in Kolkata and now taking control of the second Test in Guwahati. This follows their disappointing whitewash at the hands of New Zealand last year, and the losses are starting to add up.
Kevin Pietersen Pokes Fun at India’s Struggles
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen could not resist making a playful comment about India’s poor run in Test cricket over the past year. He joked that India never loses at home unless someone plays a special innings in Mumbai, referring to his unforgettable 186 at Wankhede in 2012 that helped England win the match.
“India NEVER loses at home, unless some very good players come and play some special knocks in Mumbai… What’s happened to India in the last couple of years in Test Cricket?” he tweeted.

India’s Decline in Home Test Dominance
For many years, India was almost unbeatable at home. Visiting teams rarely won matches, and winning a series in India was one of the toughest challenges in cricket. That reputation has taken a serious hit recently. In the last twelve months, India has lost two of their three home Test series, and both were complete whitewashes.
New Zealand first defeated them 3-0 in 2024, and now South Africa has swept the two-match series. The only bright spot was their 2-0 win against the West Indies earlier this year.
What Comes Next for India
The Indian Test team now has plenty of issues to sort out. Back-to-back home defeats have raised concerns about their approach, particularly the frequent changes made to their playing XI. With no Test matches scheduled for the next few months, the team management will have some time to reflect and figure out what has gone wrong and how they can turn things around.
