The last Super 4s match of the Asia Cup 2025 proved to be a nail-biting match between India and Sri Lanka (IND vs SL). Although it was a formality match in qualification terms, the match provided one of the most thrilling conclusions in competition history in the form of a shocking Super Over win for India.
India posted a target of 203, and Sri Lanka tied the match for a super over with the heroics of Pathum Nissanka, who played a knock of 107 runs in 58 balls. Later on, India won the Super Over by making a 3-run target given by Sri Lanka.
India Sets Record Total in Asia Cup 2025 Clash
India compiled the tournament’s highest total, 202/5 due to another explosive beginning from Abhishek Sharma, who maintained his golden touch with a 22-ball 50, going on to make 61.
Power Play (71/1):
Following the early dismissal of Shubman Gill, Abhishek unleashed a vicious counter-attack. He hit several boundaries and sixes, taking India to 71/1 in the initial six overs.
Middle Overs (79/2):
Even after losing Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek one after the other, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma stabilized the innings through intelligent rotation and timely boundaries. The primary spinner of Sri Lanka Wanindu Hasaranga was troubled by a side strain.
Death Overs (52/2):
India was slightly left behind in momentum but regained it through intense running between the wickets. Tilak Varma did not get out and was left on 49, and Axar Patel concluded the innings with a six to reach the 200-run benchmark.
Pathum Nissanka’s Century Propels Sri Lanka’s Fierce Pursuit
Pursuing 203, Sri Lanka also staged an equally fierce performance, which was topped by a scintillating 107 of 58 deliveries from Pathum Nissanka.
Power Play Attack (72/1):
Though losing Kusal Mendis to a golden duck, Nissanka and Kusal Perera set up a fiery counter-attack. They dominated India in the PowerPlay, reaching 72/1.
Middle Overs Supremacy (85/1):
The pair contributed 127 runs for the second wicket — the record partnership in Asia Cup T20 history. Nissanka completed his fifty in 25 balls, and Perera did so soon after. There was a rare moment when there was an extra substitute fielder on the field, and the match was halted for a dead ball, rescuing Axar Patel from being dropped.
Death Overs Drama (45/3):
With the next match hanging in the balance, India fought back with wickets by Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh. Nissanka registered his first T20I century, but was dismissed on the opening ball of the final over. The Sri Lankans were in need of 3 off the last ball, but could muster only 2, forcing the Tallahassee club down to a Super Over.
Super Over Drama: India Win the Game in One Ball
With the score level at 202, the match entered a Super Over
Sri Lanka Bat First:
Kusal Perera was out on the first ball. Dasun Shanaka had a life on a disputed caught-behind and near run-out but was out the following ball. Sri Lanka made only 2 runs.
India Chase with Ease:
India required 3 runs to win. Suryakumar Yadav sliced the very first ball through the covers without any fuss, winning the game for India in just one delivery.
